This
Tips is for all you cat and dog lovers,
Summer is approaching and you love to
let your indoor pets have a run outside, If you love to treat your pet like
your baby (which most true animal lovers do) chances are you want to keep them
healthy and happy.
What
if a stray dog or cat comes into contact with your loved pet? Or what if someone decides to not take
care of their pet as much as you do and let them play in the park along with
your dog? What if you come home only to see your furry loved one scratching
furiously?
Oh
NO FLEAS!!!!!! Maybe it
Ticks!!!!
Is
probably what comes to mind….
Then
you start to worry about how to get rid of them, what products will irritate your pet’s skin? Or products that promise to kill the fleas and
somehow you find yourself scratching your legs or find one happily sucking at
your ankles. You know you could buy that organic stuff they sell but you just
paid your bills and your broke till next week. You definitely don’t want to let the fleas
run rampant that long.
1. Fleas multiply fast. A female flea can produce 600 offspring in one month. A flea's life cycle from egg to larva to pupa to adult can be as short as 12 days or as long as 174 days, depending on temperature and humidity, says Candice Sousa, DVM, a veterinarian in Sacramento, Calif. (source: Dogchannel.com)
Ticks spread other diseases. Deer ticks and western black-legged ticks carry Lyme disease, caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The first sign of Lyme: A circular rash at the bite site, followed by lameness, fever, and lethargy. If caught early, antibiotics usually knock out the disease. (source: Dogchannel.com)
Everyone
who has had/has pets knows fleas/ticks can really suck (no pun intended) not to
mention the health risk it can be to your human loved ones.
So here is a tip that I came across on
Facebook. It is easy and it won’t irritate your pet’s skin. You more than
likely have these things available in your home as well.
Hope this works for you....
Kindest Regards
Flea and Tick
Remedy
8 oz apple cider vinegar
4 oz warm water
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
Mix dry ingredients first then slowly add to wet as the vinegar and baking soda will react slightly. Put into spray bottle and spray pets down. Be careful not to get in pets eyes.
* It is safe for any animal, apple cider vinegar has a shelf life of about 3-5 years so
I would assume you'd be fine to store it
for a long time, just keep it out of direct
sunlight and it shouldn't spoil. As
for application, if your pet if flea and tick free
then once a week, or after
every bath. If they're infested, spray every couple days until infestation is
gone, then do maintenance spraying of once a week or after every bath.
***** Also cedar chips in and around pet beds works to repel fleas and ticks.
